The Wraith has emerged. After Phantom and Ghost it is time for this new, powerful ‘apparition’ from the Rolls Royce stable. The menacing Wraith, launched for the Indian market, was unveiled in the city on Friday as part of a multi-city tour.
The luxury four-seater fastback combines design elements of the Phantom and Ghost with sweeping modern features. The two tone presentation in diamond black and sand silver, bold lines, raked rear screen, deeply recessed grille, the signature Spirit of Ecstasy figurine and the famous RR emblem emblazoned prominently gives the exterior that classy touch.
The wide coach doors open to lavishly luxurious interiors complete with the softest Phantom-grade leathers and wood panelling called ‘Canadel Panelling’, from the South of France. “We still use genuine teak wood from Kerala in our Malabar panelling, which is an option that customers can ask for. In fact, we offer a lot of choices regarding the paint, colour of the leather inside, wood panelling etc.,” says K. Venkatesh, CEO, Rolls Royce Motor Cars, Hyderabad. The Rolls-Royce’s signature Starlight headliner - embedded with 1340 fibre-optic nodes which, when lit, mimic the night sky - is also available on demand.
The Wraith is the first car to debut with Rolls-Royce’s Satellite Aided Transmission (SAT) technology. The SAT utilises GPS data to pre-select gears based on location and driving style. “This technology gives the driver an effortless driving experience. It comes equipped with voice activation commands, with a one-touch call button located on the steering wheel. For Indian road conditions the clearance level has been raised to 155 mm. Whatever the terrain, the Wraith retains the famous ‘waft’ ability, providing a polished driving experience. It is also the most powerful Rolls Royce, powered by a 6.6-litre, twin-turbo V-12 capable of providing 632.5PS of power and an impressive 800Nm of torque that enable it to glide from 0-100 km/h in 4.4sec,” explains Hitesh Naik, General Manager, Rolls Royce Motor Cars, Hyderabad.
The Wraith, priced at Rs 4.6 crore, is one of the most expensive cars on sale in the country. “It is not the price or the number of cars that we sell that matters. In Kerala there are already 16 Rolls Royce cars on the road. What we have seen is that those who own two or more of the other luxury cars finally land up buying their dream Rolls Royce,” says Venkatesh.
