Whoever knows me even remotely will know of my burger cravings. When I say burgers I mean tenderloins. So for a burger freak like me, the launch of Fat Burger in India was news to be taken seriously. The all-American burger chain, which was established in 1952 and has presence in 155 locations across the globe, opened its first outlet in India at Cyberhub Gurgaon, one of the most happening food hubs of NCR.

The positive change I have noticed is that now people have burgers as a complete meal and not just as a snack. The liking is such that in the last two years, some international burgers chains have entered the Indian market with a couple more in the pipeline.

The menu at Fat Burger has been kept simple with basic appetisers, some wraps and a good range of burgers. I tasted a few appetisers before plunging into the burgers. Potato skins stuffed with chicken mince seemed pretty decent with grated cheddar as topping. Wild West chicken chilli seemed to be very Indian as it was served in a bowl with chopped onions and topped with cheese. I somehow couldn’t connect with the flavour of the chicken. Onion rings made in Amritsari style were good enough and would definitely do well with Delhiites. I loved its crust and the sprinkle of chilli powder on it.

Another must have at burger joints are the wings. At Fat Burger they do it with three different dips. I liked the BBQ chipotle and honey mustard which complemented the tender chicken wings. I was halfway through and now had space only for burgers. I tasted four of them — outlaw crispy chicken, tenderloin, Mexican standoff and the fat Greek. All four variants had distinct taste and flavours.

Even though they all had the juiciest patties I have ever eaten, they disappointed with the bun size. I came to Fat Burger with the mindset of holding a meaty burger with both hands with cheese and sauces dripping, but I had a very comfortable eating session.

Among the burgers, the tenderloin stood tall but for me the USP of Fat Burger is its courteous young staff and quick service.
