Mama Mia Italia. The restaurant is small and cosy. The menu has just about two options yet the place is most thronged by almost all at Sainikpuri. Why? They give you wood-burnt pizzas, pasta and panacottas. And their pizzas boasts of freshness and taste which is very comforting and re assuring that good food can be found in places like Sainikpuri as well.

Started by Veena and Shastry, Mama Mia Italia is the perfect neighbourhood pizzeria where pizzas are served straight from the oven with generous toppings which are fresh and with home made sauces.

The pizza section has a choice of veg and non-veg pizzas and according to choice of toppings, the two sections have a pretty decent choice.

What would make one walk into Mama Mia Italia is their name board. The fact that they serve wood burnt pizzas is sure a novelty and the perfect home made base makes every bite of the pizza a wonderful experience. Even a single bite of these pizzas will make the fussiest eaters satisfied.

The owners Veena and Shastry boast of the use of fresh ingredients and says “only thing we buy is the raw materials. From the base to the sauces, everything is done at Mama-mia.

The idea of a wood burnt pizza came to our mind when we were on a trip to Italy. I made use of the visit by not just learning about the pizza but also learned the techniques to make an oven which can be installed wherever we plan to start shop. Both of us like good food and it was a common idea that we do a joint which is homely, small and yet serve food that brings our customers back,” says Veena, Shastry’s wife.

Now about the pizzas: they are very different from the thick bases we eat from the branded pizza houses. The sauce being home-made comes without the taste of preservatives and the veg topping are so well sliced that they cook yet the crunchiness remain intact. The toppings are generous and the cheese isn’t stringy like we see on TV. The base when requested by customers can be baked to made crisp informs Shastry.

In the dessert section there is a section for natural flavoured ice creams as well. The Panacotta is good but it could be a little too sweet for those who don’t like it very sweet.
