I just love Delhi for the fact that every day it offers something new to explore when it comes to food. Passionate foodies-turned-restaurateurs put their heart and soul into building places where their kind of food is served. Recently I met Pushkar Chopra whose love for Mexican food led him to open Mexitup at GK- I, M Block Market. It’s a nice vibrant place with lots of positive vibes about it.
With the emerging food industry Mexitup will surely have an advantage of being one of the first ones when it comes to Mexican QSRs. The menu is very selective with just the signature delicacies which qualify it to be called a a Mexican joint. Being a safe bet I started with nachos, which I think in last couple of years have really become popular amongst youngsters. As it came, it looked spectacular, topped with melted cheddar. They were so good that I kept on munching and finished the whole serving. The quesadillas that followed were stuffed with some shredded meat and melted cheese. In between I sipped their pink limonada which is the only drink available at the moment but was really refreshing and needs to be at the table all through your meal. All the dishes are served with dips such as guacamole, jalapeno, bean, cheese and a suicidal salsa dip. Two dishes down, I eagerly waited for tacos to arrive which was the litmus test for Mexitup. I opted for a hard shell stuffed with some grilled filling. It was crunchy but could have been better. I missed the crunch sound when I had my first bite. Burrito was the only traditional dish left to be tasted before the chilli burger. It was flavourful but then it became repetitive and I needed something to clear the palate.
The only difference was in the spice levels which ranged from spicy, hot to explosion. Though Mexican flavours are quite similar to North Indian flavours, I still doubt if Indians develop a preference for burritos as they are bit reluctant when it comes to eating rice as a stuffing in a tortilla. I ordered Mexican chilli burger with explosion as the spice level but found it quite mild. The reason was that when bun came in to play, it absorbed all the flavours from the stuffing. But I liked the sound of crunchy sound of the nachos. With such spicy food, I really needed to end on a sweet note. I opted for chocolate salami and it was damn chocolicious.Really a must have at Mexitup.
