Kinbuck 2, which is being promoted as Delhi’s first Roman Bistro

A number of theme-based restaurants have come up in Connaught Place in recent times contributing to its resurgence. One of the latest additions is Kinbuck 2, which is being promoted as Delhi’s first Roman Bistro. It has been launched by Anshul Garg whose visit to a restaurant called Kinbuck in Norway inspired him to come back and open another restaurant by the same name with numeral 2 added to it. A nice cosy bistro located in P Block, in the outer circle, Kinbuck 2 has ample parking space and an interesting menu but for me the USP of the place is its chef.

I really admire Chef Anay Mukherjee’s passion and love for cooking. The way he talks about his food speaks about his intense involvement and attention to minute details. Familiar with my preferences, he started the course with a piping hot bowl of smoked chicken soup which was infused with the fragrance of truffle oil. I really like how chefs are nowadays using truffle in soups and even in main courses to add to the flavours.

The salad served to me was a beautifully presented classic caprese. Tomato and bocconcini layered over each other with basilica pesto was full of freshness, which is a vital factor, for any salad to work. A slight disappointment was that they were not ready with the signature Roman delicacies which they would be incorporating shortly. Apart from that, the menu is extensive and boasts some really good dishes. Chef Anay’s shish touk was made to perfection and made his stay in Lebanon seem worthwhile and fruitful.

From the Indian section, I was served a platter of kababs which was sufficient enough to satisfy the carnivore in me. Their bhatti ka tikka was really special and had that earthen aroma and tenderness to the core. Even lemon murgh chaman tikka was worth every bite. I must say Chef Anay was bang on with the Indian starters.

The Chinese was even better. Diced chicken honking and Beijing chicken served with chilli garlic rice were just too good. The chicken curries paired so well with rice that the combination became heavenly, especially the honking which was boiled in flavours of burnt chilli and ginger. Just to change the flavour, I ended with grilled sole in lemon basil sauce.
