How do you like your milkshake? Chilled and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top? You can make it tasty and healthy by adding a spoonful of peanut butter. Peanut butter in a milkshake? Yes, this interesting recipe and a few other recipes with peanut butter were part of a ‘workshop on peanut butter’, held at Hotel Green Park.
As the session began, noted nutritionist Janaki Srinath spoke about the importance of eating a balanced diet with right amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
“How many of us eat a wholesome breakfast everyday which has taste and gives enough nourishment to the body?” she asked the gathering and went on to explain the negative effects of not eating the right way. Protein is highly essential for everybody especially for growing kids, pregnant and lactating mothers.
“When children do not receive enough protein, they grow up to be malnourished and underweight individuals and have stunted growth,” she said. Among the protein-rich foods we eat like dal , meat, soy, milk, wheat protein, whey protein, peanuts is an easy and quick form of protein. “Proteins are best consumed in morning or post-exercise,” she said as she spoke about the goodness of introducing peanut butter in diet. “Peanut butter is a good combination of fibre and protein, which makes it filling and one doesn’t end up eating junk food,” she said.
The next part of the workshop included a session of preparing dishes with peanut butter.
The chef prepared a peanut butter sandwich followed by peanut butter and banana smoothie. The audience were informed that peanut butter can be used in apple salad, oatmeal cookies, chocolate fudge, ginger dip, noodles, apple and granola sandwich.
