Time for some ‘Gorilla Treat' and ‘Mango Trilogy' at this month-long ice-cream festival
With Delhi's summer getting too hot to handle, a perfect escape has arrived just in time in the form of an ice-cream festival at The Royal Plaza in the heart of Delhi in Connaught Place. On offer is a range of frozen delicacies as part of the hotel's month-long food promotion.
The menu consists of nine varieties of ice-cream, such as Butter Crunch, a vanilla-flavoured ice-cream with some crunchy nuts, rose syrup and ice-cream wafer. I took a bite and forgot it's the month of May. Each variety came with a minimum of three big scoops, so much so that I decided to skip lunch for the day.
Next came the much in-demand Chocolate Fantasy, a treat for any chocolate lover, containing both the white and dark varieties. Both flavours came with some whipped cream and fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate sauce.
Mango being my favourite fruit, I have always had a weakness for mango flavoured ice-creams. I was looking forward to Mango Trilogy — three yellow scoops of ice-cream placed on custard cookies, dipped in mango sauce and topped with whipped cream and fresh mango, the crunch of the cookies offset by the the smooth ice-cream. There were many fruit-flavoured ice-creams, like the Fruit Delight (fresh-cut fruits with butterscotch ice-cream and caramel sauce), Gorilla Treat (a banana-based ice-cream) and an in-house special, Pineapple Papaya Paradise. I ended my ice-cream treat with Shadow of Black and White — three scoops of vanilla ice-cream dipped in chocolate sauce, surrounded by walnut brownie and hard chunks of walnut giri. A delight to watch and eat.
The ice-cream festival is on at The Royal Plaza till June 9.
