After missing on the much talked about winter menu by Chef Gurpreet Singh of Punjab Grill I made sure to review its regular one. Conveniently located at Select City Walk Mall, Saket, Punjab Grill has some really nice delicacies to satisfy the cravings. The ambience is simple, it lacks the opulence and good cheer associated with Punjab. In simple words it’s just the food of Punjab Grill which does the talking.

The day I went there, it was quite windy and I was served a nice piping hot murgh badami shorba. Mildly spiced soup was flavoursome. An extensive menu for starters had names which were tempting. Though I tried to taste most of them, I still missed some. Paneer tikka, tandoori broccoli and dahi ke kabab were some of the vegetarian delicacies I tried. Tikka had a nice glazing but slightly over grilled as the paneer became a bit dry. Broccoli was good and dahi ke kababs were soft and silky.

But the real gems were on the right side of the menu. Chaamp taajdar, pot roasted and slowly braised lamb chops were delicious. Tenderness of the meat was perfect and just left the bone without an effort. I like my chops a bit chewy, though. Bhatti ka murgh was again a dish to cherish having a nice mix of spices and tanginess of a yogurt marinade. Chicken kurkuri a visual delight was a nice innovation. Wonton skin rolls filled with chicken and mushroom, celery and olives complemented each other really well. Deep fried with corn flour and rolled up in vermicelli gave the roll a nice crunchy texture.

Dishes like tandoori duck and salmon tikka were worth a try as the chef has worked wonders with them. Attempting a salmon in mustard oil and still keeping the core aroma intact deserves compliments. Main course dishes were not less praiseworthy but more flavourful. Palak paneer and Meat Punjab Grill were two delicacies which I liked the most. Palak paneer was a perfect winter preparation and tasted yummy with laccha parantha. Meat gravy was smooth and silky. Lamb shanks cooked on slow flame gave the curry a nice texture. It really went well with the tandoori naan. Butter chicken at Punjab Grill was also worth a try.

Staff was courteous and offered some signature dishes but with a full belly I had space only for desserts. Out of the three their kheer was awesome. Fluffy creamy texture and balance of sugar was commendable.

Meal for two: Rs.1800
