A ‘chaat' festival is on at the Abad Foodcourt at Baypride Mall

It's post lunch but pre-teatime. What do you do? Have some chaats at the Chaat festival on at Abad Food Court, Baypride Mall, while you watch shoppers all around the glass walls. Yes, the festival begins at 3 pm and is on till 10 pm.

Walk in and head to the counter where you have to order your chaats. And be sure to have change. They asked us for the small change as well. We ordered Dahi bataata puri, paav bhaji and bhel puri.

The paav was excellent, lovely and hot, with the bhaji coming out second in the race, some way behind. Dahi battata puri has to be eaten immediately otherwise the dahi will make it soggy, eclipsing the crunchiness of the chaat.

If you have lived in North India for some time at least and tried out the chaats you get on the street, you will relish eating it in the cosy confines of an air conditioned space. The bhel puri plate brimmeth over and is enough for three, for you cannot eat a whole plate of it plain. If you like it spicier or need more sauce, ‘just tell us', says Sweetie, the floor manager, when we almost finished our chaats.

Apart from these there are many other types that you can crunch, like paani puri, papdi chat, aloo tikki with channa, dahi bhalla, chole bhatura or puris, if you please. You can go chaat-ting till July 25.
