The restaurant located on the first floor of the Marrios Hotel is called ‘Black & White’, a name that is fitting, inspired by a chessboard, with flat black surfaces, white walls and checkered black tablecloths. However, the stark background is in constant danger of fading out of view as the items on the menu are brought out, with smoke billowing out of the platter and the sizzle of cooking meat and hot sauces filling the room.

The restaurant is conducting a steak and sizzler festival for meat lovers and clients can treat themselves to an assortment of steaks such as the Chicken Steak Mexican, a seafood mixed grill and even cottage cheese steaks for those who prefer the green path. “We wanted to try something new and experimental to bring in more visitors,” says Executive Chef Issac V.P., “there is a variety of items, on the menu, for everyone, with prawn toasties and naadan chicken soup starting the proceedings and the heavy steaks bringing up the main course,” he says.

The main course he mentions, following the starters and soups, offers quite a few choices for those who know their steaks. The Steak Medallion consists of two small fillet steaks served with pepper and mushroom sauce while the seafood mixed grill features marinated prawns, fish, squid and grilled karimeen .

For vegetarians, the aforementioned Special Cottage Cheese Steak has vegetables marinated in masala and cooked in a tandoor. If you happen to be a traditionalist, put off by fancy names and ingredients, the traditional Chicken Steak is definitely worth a try. Arriving on a smoking platter accompanied by steamed vegetables and French fries, with a generous helping of mushroom sauce, the steak is a juicy slice of heaven that is perfect for a good meal.

Issac explains that the staff is more than happy to accommodate the interests of their clients. “We have taken care to include something for everyone, no matter what kind of cuisine a person prefers, they are sure to find something of interest in our menu, between the fish, chicken and vegetables on offer,” he says amiably.

With a number of sizzler fests happening in the city, foodies may be hard pressed to find a quiet place with decent ambience and good food. Black & White aims to fill that void by offering a good place to hang out and have dinner with friends or family.

The sizzler festis on at the Marrios Hotel, Kaloor-Kadavanthra Road for dinner (7.00 to 10.30 p.m.) till May31.
