January is the month when every mall is giving discounts and most of the showrooms have sales. I was at Select City Walk Saket to avail these offers but after a while I was hungry and looked out for a nice place to eat. As I was walking through the connected malls I saw a beautiful picture of a smoky sizzler which reminded me of the ongoing sizzler promotion at Indian Grill by Hilton Garden Inn. Somehow the food on a hot plate has always attracted me. Waiter coming towards the table holding a smoky, hot, chattering, sizzler is a visual treat.
As the executive chef Avinash Handoo came in, I was more than happy to see him. He is one chef who is very good at presenting Indian food and gives it a modern look. Even his selection of delicacies is commendable. Being a sizzler promotion he wanted to serve world cuisines cooked on the hot plate but having different flavours. Though I would have loved if he had incorporated some of the Indian dishes as well, still the menu was tempting enough to give it a shot.
He started with prawn skewers with mustard cream and fondant potatoes. Nice preparation, but the mustard cream lacked the zing. Its flavour should have been a bit stronger. Following it was a nicely grilled Norwegian salmon..
Shitake mushrooms really went well with the fillet. Spring chicken Diana with a honey glazing was very bland and failed to impress me. But the one which was delicious and made to perfection was the chicken schnitzel. Thin fillet of chicken breast coated with bread crumbs accompanied with wild rice was a preparation worth eating. It was juicy and tender which most of the chicken breast preparations are not.
Mix-meat sizzler which is a carnivore’s wish fulfilled was good. Medallion steak was done to medium and was flavoursome and chicken breast grilled and then put on the sizzler plate topped with BBQ sauce was again a dish to cherish. After the hard meats, I purposely had a bite of cheese roulade and surprisingly it turned out to be the winner of the day for me. Cottage cheese rolls stuffed with spinach and sundried tomatoes just melted in the mouth. The menu didn’t have any dessert to end with but the chef still served me nice caramel custard to end on a sweeter note.
Meal for two: Rs.2000
The promotion ends on February 5.
