Back in our college days, there was a plus point to every cultural event. Other than participating in it, there was the sublime pleasure of rushing to the snack kiosks that were set up on campus.

Winning hearts

Since then, I have been convinced that somehow, these tiny snack bars enjoy greater loyalty from its customers than their more expensive counterparts.

Kusum Rolls Fast Food in Hebbal is one such place that immediately wins the heart of college students. Set up two years ago, this kiosk is situated opposite Presidency College.

Simple and standout

As the name suggests, Kusum Rolls specialises in limited varieties of vegetarian and non-vegetarian rolls.

I was surprised to discover that despite being a snack bar, it was open until 10 p.m., even on weekends. What's popular are the paneer rolls, egg rolls and chicken rolls.

The difference lies in how these seemingly simple sounding rolls turn out to be the best you've ever tasted. And when you witness them being made — hot parathas deftly rolled onto butter paper — it only adds to the charm of the entire experience.

Topping

I began with the double paneer roll, which was very spicy. Biting into the egg roll, I mentally gave it full points.

The paratha was warm and soft. Topped with the customary tomato ketchup, the omelette and the vegetables it was stuffed with were delicious.Over the years Kusum Rolls has become a haunt for many Hebbal residents.

“Rolls are quite a popular snack in Kolkata and the ones made at Kusum Rolls are of the same quality,” says Sabita Chatterjee, who visits the place twice or thrice a week. “I've tried every variety here and the egg chicken roll is my favourite,” she declares.

Takeaways

There is a steady flow of customers at the eatery. While some eat at the kiosk, others order takeaways. The eatery also serves plain parathas and noodles.
