The French dessert brings on the freshness of a fruit, the zing of red wine and the richness of mascarpone. An extraordinarily simple recipe with a handful of ingredients, the dessert takes shape in under half an hour. A classy dessert, it makes a stunning sight too.

Poached pear with red wine sauce

Ingredients

1 pear

200 ml red wine

120 gms sugar

55 gms mascarpone cheese

Method

Poach the pear by placing it on a saucepan with red wine, sugar and a little water.

Boil for 20 minutes and then remove the pear from the saucepan. Reduce the rest of the water until rich and smooth.

Serve pear with the sauce poured over it along with ice-cream and mascarpone cheese.
