My grandmother taught me this recipe which is made during Deepavali. It is a simple and easy to prepare recipe.
What you need
Maida: 1 cup
Milk: 3 cups
Sugar: 1 cup
Cashewnuts: 10
Cardamom: a few
Saffron: a pinch
Oil: a little
Salt: a pinch
Cooking instructions
Make dough with the maida and a pinch of salt and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Roll out into thin pooris and deep fry in oil.
Grind cashewnuts and cardamom to a coarse powder.
Boil milk till it reduces to half. Add sugar, saffron, the cashew-cardamom mixture and continue to boil on a low flame.
Remove milk from flame, add the pooris one by one and let soak.
Remove the polis from the milk and store separately as soaked polis tend to stick.
Serve hot or chilled.
