Pepper chicken gravy is a quick and easy-to-make traditional recipe. I learnt this recipe from my grandmother. It is a sure cure for cold, cough and body ache.
What you need
Chicken – 250 gm
Small onions – a handful
Curry leaves – a few
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cloves – 2
Cinnamon – 2 small pieces
Curry masala powder - 1 tsp
Salt - as required
For the marinade
Pepper corns – 3 tsp
Red chilli – 2
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Garlic – 8 cloves
Cooking instructions
Make a fine paste of garlic pods, red chilli, cumin seeds, pepper corns and coriander powder, adding a little water.
Marinate the washed chicken in this paste with salt for one hour.
Pressure cook the marinated chicken with required water for one whistle.
Heat oil in a separate pan and sputter the mustard seeds. Add curry leaves, cloves and cinnamon, followed by finely sliced small onions and sauté till golden brown. Add curry masala powder and pour over the chicken gravy. Add salt as required. Close with the lid and simmer, stirring in between till the gravy is thick enough.
If you want to make a fry allow the gravy to cook till the water drains.
