Whenever I am in Delhi I make it a point to dine in some of the best malls. This time I visited the luxurious DLF Emporio mall, located in Vasant Kunj, whose opulence makes it stand apart from the rest. While there, I decided to try out the new summer menu at Auma, a fine dining restaurant.

I quite liked the ambience of Auma. Spread over 4200 sq. ft., it is envisaged to redefine luxury dining. The new menu for summers was quite well selected and had some wonderful delicacies. Rahul Vasudeva, general manager of the restaurant, took me through the menu and started my gastronomic journey with a lime sorbet. Presented beautifully as a palate cleanser, the sorbet was fine but very tangy.

It was followed by a shrimp and avocado salad. It was served in a martini glass which was impressive. Shrimps tasted well with the avocado and refreshed me completely. Even the next salad, a trio of ravioli, was worth a try. The raviolis were tender and delicious.

Bound by habit, I followed it with a soup. Rahul asked me to try their wild mushroom soup with a truffle and I agreed to it. It was thick and tasty. It had a nice aroma with a beautiful muddy colour.

Auma’s summer menu leaves out starters so, left with no option, I started with the main course. Spinach and ricotta ravioli in rose sauce was good. It had subtle flavours and just melted in my mouth. The second vegetarian dish was vegetable crepe and was also excellent. I liked the stuffing and the flavour of the sauce which elevated the taste of the dish.

Moving to the non-vegetarian part of the menu, I again had two options and I tried both of them. Slow roasted spring chicken was the first one to be served. The chicken was plated beautifully and tasted even better. Slow roasting made the chicken tender. Served with veggies and mashed potatoes, the chicken was a dish to remember. Even the seasoning was perfect.

Next was the pla nerng khing, steamed fillet of sole with ginger and sesame oil. It was served with a bowl of steamed rice. It was the only dish which was average but at least it was light and healthy. Fillet of sole was perfect in succulence. I ended my summer menu with the Italian classic tiramisu which had a very robust flavour. I liked the caramel panacotta better.

Summer menu is priced at Rs.2500 plus taxes per person
