Let the slurp be heard

Take a break from drinks that chill and dig into chilling delights

Ten rounds, 10 gelatos. As the first one—‘Pineapple, Glenlivit whiskey and ginger’ — was served, unmindful of the word of caution of not to finish it in order to be able to taste the rest, the first simply disappeared from the bowl. The ummmsss… and yums flowed freely and someone pointed out — that’s what is called a foodgasm.

A few words on the first one: the single malt’s flavour is robust, but the pineapple plays it down and does a wonderful job of combining the malt for a perfect fusion. The sweetness is mysteriously perfect and the ginger flavour only tickles the tastebud as you let the gelato travel gently down your throat.

What followed next was an experience none would turn down. As the last remains were being licked from the bowl, it was replaced by Lemon and mascaporne cheesecake. This one will make you appreciate lemony desserts. Credit the mascaporne for the lovely flavours and leaving the taste bud with a fresh flavour that lingers on till the next one is placed on the table.

And that precisely seems to be the mission of the chef Manik Mangotra at Amara, Hotel Trident—get diners hooked on fabulous desserts, “so that they ask for nothing but the best.” It has been a challenge for him to try unusual combinations and even a simple glimpse at the menu will reveal that most of the gelatos will manage to titillate the taste buds.

Who can refuse a Bailey’s and caramel, or turn down an offer of a white chocolate and peanut butter?

Among the regular flavours, there is Fresh Himayat mango which is as good as slurping into a fresh, naturally sweet Himayat.

To freshen up your mind nothing can beat the taste of the Green tea and mint. Only one word for this one: refreshingly perfect.

The challenge however, which the chef called upon himself was to whip up a Gelato with Avocado, after he drank an Avocado shake several years back.

The verdict on the chef’s challenge: Mind blowing. Avocado lovers will want this all through the season.

Banana lovers can enjoy Banana walnut Straciatella. Then there is the all-time favourite: fig and honey and white chocolate with peanut butter.

These are the flavours to choose from, is experimenting with flavours is not on your cards.

The Gelatos are served at Tuscany and Amara at Hotel Trident.
