If you have been a city slicker yearning to eat a regular fare in a cosy village atmosphere, Kadai is for you. Situated opposite Lingampally bus stop, the restaurant opened its doors on Valentine’s Day. Enter and you will spot a neatly painted well (with no water in it) sitting prettily in the middle. Make yourself comfortable on one of the wooden chairs amid a village ambience. Colourful glass bangles attract your attention as do the walls painted with a couple on a bullock cart and women walking with pots on their head. At different corners are khats (wooden beds, a familiar sight in villages) placed upright with bamboo lights accompanying them.

The first venture of mother-son duo Shobha Rani and Nikhil Reddy, Kadai at Lingampally seeks to tap the family and college crowd. “There are almost 8000 apartments and independent houses in a radius of 5 km. There are many engineering colleges in around Chandanagar. Also Hi-tech city is just 20 minutes away. So we thought that Lingampally would be a prime centre,” says Nikhil over an email interview (He is doing his under graduation in the US). On the choice of a village theme for the restaurant, Nikhil says, “The goal was to attract people who enjoy authentic food in a soothing ambience. We decided to go with a design which has a flavour of Indian tradition. Our designers have put in a lot of effort and made it look simple.”

The frills-free restaurant on the fourth floor allows one to enjoy the food while watching the traffic zip past by. It has a banquet hall that is ideal for functions and parties. “Since we have many competitors in Chandanagar, we started off with reasonable prices. Kadai’s ambience and food are our main strengths and keeps us unique from others,” he says.

The menu includes the ubiquitous baby corn Manchurian, chilli paneer and veg spring rolls for starters. If you are an egg lover, you can check out egg Manchurian and chilli egg. The non-vegetarians will be pleased with the extensive fare which includes all the chicken, fish, lamb and prawns items like chicken lollipop, chicken drumstick, mutton sukka fry, Apollo fish and golden friend prawns.

Vegetarians can enjoy navratan kurma, veg dhaniya mirchi and paneer tikka masala along with their rotis, naans and kulchas. The menu includes Chinese items too. Finish off the meal with gulab jamun with ice cream or a fruit salad with ice cream. “We often take feedback from our customers and keep in touch via sms/emails,” signs off Nikhil.
