Green peas cake is a delicious Gujarati dish with high nutritious value. I learnt this recipe from my aunt who lives in Odisha. It’s a great idea for an evening snack and can be had with tomato or chilli sauce.
What you need
Green peas – 1 cup
Gram flour – 1 cup
Semolina – 4 tbsp
Green chillies - 4
Ginger – a small piece
Lemon juice – 2 tbsp
Yeast – 1 tbsp
Oil – 4 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 11/2 tbsp
Sesame seeds – 1 tbsp
Curry leaves – a few
Salt - to taste
Cooking instructions
Grind green peas, green chillies and ginger in a mixer and make a smooth paste.
Take gram flour in a vessel add salt, lemon juice and semolina and mix the mixture well.
Now add the green peas paste into this mixture and add little water, yeast and mix well.
Oil one shallow plate and spread this mixture evenly on it.
Steam the mixture in a pressure cooker for around 10 minutes without putting the weight.
Cut the steamed cake into diamond / triangular shapes.
Temper curry leaves, sesame seeds, mustard seeds and asafoetida in a little oil and pour over the green cake pieces.
The pea cake is ready to serve.
