This is a tasty and colourful twist to a traditional dish. I love to make these for my grandchildren and am sure children would love this.
What you need:
For batter:
Idli rice: 3- 4 cups
Urad dal: one full cup
Ghee: 2 tbsp
Sugar: 2 tbsp
Cashew or badam: finely chopped
Kismis(raisins) : 10- 15 nos
Jam squeeze: one tube
Cooking instructions:
Soak rice and urad dal separately for three to four hours. Grind rice coarsely and urad dal till fine and fluffy. Mix both batters, add salt and pinch of cooking soda. Set aside to ferment.
Heat ghee in a kadai. Sauté cashew and kismis till golden brown. Take required batter in a bowl, add two tablespoons of powdered sugar and mix well. Add the fried nuts and dry fruits. Pour them into moulds and steam. Take them out and decorate like in the picture, using kismis to make eyes. Squeeze jam to form smileys.
