Good food can set me travelling to the ends of the earth, and the other day it had me challenging the Delhi peak hour traffic jams on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road to reach a nice newly launched all-day dining restaurant, Bohemia, in Gurgaon. Located in Sapphire Mall on Sohna Road, Gurgaon, it serves Mediterranean and Italian cuisine. The restaurant has a nice ambience too.
Positioned on the top floor, it also has a nice alfresco dining setup. Bright coloured tables with hanging Morrocan lamps combine to create relaxed dinner atmosphere. I chose to sit inside near the wood fired oven. The aroma of fresh breads being taken out of the oven was just mesmerising.
The menu is not extensive but a collection of selected delicacies. Each dish is crafted to perfection. I started with a thick tomato soup, made in traditional Italian style with hand crushed tomatoes. The bread served alongside was — naturally — fresh out of the oven, just as the chermoula chicken chunks came from the wooden oven and had an earthy aroma. Served with sweet mango salad, the chermoula marinated chicken chunks were delicious. The fish strips had a crispy crust with juicy fish inside. The flavours were subtle and enjoyable.
But an even better delicacy was the Chimichurri-rubbed basa in lemon caper emulsion served with grilled veggies and potatoes. A healthy and delicious dish. The fish was perfectly cooked and retained its moisture, and this seems to be a dish most people would enjoy.
Next to follow was the sage garlic chicken. I just loved the rosemary roasted potatoes served with it which blended well with the flavours of the chicken. The chicken was also juicy and not at all dry. But how can a meal be considered Italian enough without a pizza — that too one baked in a wood oven? I tried the spicy chicken topped with onion, mushrooms and chicken chunks. It was a classic example of a thin crust pizza with a perfect base.
To satisfy my sweet cravings I ordered a Baklava but was not much impressed with it as the filo was not correctly done and lacked the layering. The almond mud cake with chocolate mousse was a delight.
