So now there is no need to go on a long, winding drive on the G.T. Road to enjoy dhaba food. Ignis Kitchen and Bar, located in the heart of Delhi — Connaught Place B Block Inner Circle — has come up with a food promotion, Highway on My Plate, till the end of the month.

The menu consists of selectdishes picked from various dhabas on highways. It has names of the dhabas attached to the dish names, like Paramjeet ki tandoori macchi and Colonel ji da meat.

Before starting my dhaba journey, I go for my childhood favourite nimbu banta, served here as a mocktail. I also take a few sips from yet another concoction, anannas mein pudina, which I find refreshingly tangy.

All rejuvenated, I run my eyes through its list of starters. I put my finger on tala hua murg. Medium sized crispy deep-fried red coloured chicken pieces with bones. Nice and tender and not at all dry from inside. I enjoy it by dipping it in the traditional mint chutney and sliced onions.

Next comes Paramjeet ki tandoori macchi. It has small chunks of boneless fish.

As the Highway on My Plate menu doesn’t have any vegetarian option, I try Ignis special dry chilli paneer from its regular menu. Delicious.

In the main course, I choose Giani da ragda chicken, a delicious delicacy having the perfect balance of spices served with missi roti and crispy laccha parantha. Colonel ji da meat is also made to perfection.

Then, there is Puran ki chicken curry, served with a boiled egg as topping. It has a nice gravy. All the curries go pretty well with the accompanying basket of breads that has missi roti, laccha parantha, butter naan and tandoori roti.

If the greens beckon you, then do go for the Mitran di allu gobhi or the bharwan da palak paneer. The latter comes with tender pieces of paneer dunked in a finely minced palak-based gravy.

Well, Ignis also has a thali which has all of these dishes. It is appropriately called GT Road special thali.

I wind up my meal with Sher-e-Punjab kheer. It has a rather thick texture and the perfect sweetness.
