One cuisine which refuses to go out of fashion is Chinese. The reasons are numerous, but one is certainly familiarity. A number of Chinese fast food chains have come up in the city, that have developed the taste of even the non-gourmet Delhiites for common dishes such as chowmein and dimsums.
So targeting those diehard Chinese food fans comes Chi–Fresh Asian Kitchen and Bar which has some exciting dimsum recipes on the menu at its Select Citywalk outlet in Saket.
Easy to access, it is quite close to the mall entrance.
Before you begin with your shopping spree or after you have returned from it exhausted, you can enjoy the Chinese food at Chi.
The menu is also very extensive, filled with options. I saw couples enjoying their ramen soup, a complete meal in itself, served in a bowl. Though I went for the fresh and flavourful Chi corn soup. It is thick in texture, and full of corn, which rendered sweetness to the soup.
Crispy sesame chicken and lettuce salad was refreshing. As starters I opted for dimsums and found to my surprise 19 variants.
The chef wanted me to taste every variation which of course I couldn’t — though not for lack of trying. And some of them were indeed quite exotic. Prawn cilantro and chicken celery were tender and aromatic. Pok choy in rice flour dumpling was tasty too. Glass wrapped dumplings in a translucent dough were very succulent. I enjoyed every bit of them but it was the chicken bao which takes first prize — a perfect blend of sweet and spicy flavours.
Authentic yakitori skewers at Chi were juicy and tender and went well with a perfectly made peanut sauce. Crispy fried chicken with burnt chilli had its unique flavours. Pizza lovers can be pampered with some fusion pizzas available at Chi where pizzas are topped with Chinese toppings and called chizzas. I went for the chicken run which had a perfect crispy base. In the main course I went for my favourite Burmese import khaou suey served with coconut curry, noodles, fried onions and garlic. From the clay pots I tasted Hunan pot with chicken but found it a bit bland.
Though by and large the food at Chi was delicious, it’s always the desserts that are, well, the icing on the cake! Walnut brownie with vanilla scoop was perfect. I loved the brownie loaded with crunchy walnuts.
