NEW RECORD Chef Kavitha

Last November, chef ‘Malgudi’ Kavitha successfully completed the Longest Individual Cooking Marathon. And now, the feat has been officially recognised by The Limca Book of Records.

“I cooked non-stop for 35 hours, 20 minutes. I dished out more than 1,550 recipes and cooked 453 kg of food,” says the chef who hails from Virudhachalam.

Asked why she fiercely pursued the record, she says, “As a woman, I wanted to do this. I wanted to break stereotypes and do something that only a man has done so far.” And, break a man’s record, she did — the previous record was held by chef Damu, who cooked non-stop for 24 hours, 30 minutes and 12 seconds.

Incidentally, she was felicitated for this achievement during the recent inauguration of The Malgudi Sangamam Food Festival , which she put together for Malgudi, the South Indian restaurant of The Savera Hotel. And looks like the pressure of recognition has only made her more competitive. Kavitha has already set her eyes on The Guinness Book Of Records.

(The food fest is on till March 10)
