After its success at the DLF Promenade Mall in Saket, Smokehouse Deli now comes up with yet another outlet, this time at the Capital’s Khan Market. It's an interesting amalgam of the rich culinary traditions of the West with modern European cafe fare.

Decorated in classy white, its interior is an appealing mix of 2D and 3D illustrations that cover the walls and invoke a sense of modern-day familiarity. Rightly so then, its interior was nominated for U.K.'s prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Award.

Smokehouse Deli's menu is extensive and highlights homely, comfort food that pleases your senses while retaining gourmet flourishes. Executive Chef Shamsul Wahid says, “Our intent is to give all-day options with a wholesome, healthy as well as hearty fare designed to cater to every mood.”

Like a true blue deli, it starts business at 10.00 a.m., churns out some luscious breakfast offerings of pancakes and omelettes which have good eight variants. Shamsul helps me start my gastronomic journey at the Deli with a baby fennel and smoked chicken soup accompanied by a bread basket. Soup is tasty and proves to be the perfect antidote for my cold. It is followed by balsamic beetroot feta salad. Portion of the salad is good and the salad, refreshing too.

If you are not too hungry and want something light, I would suggest you to go for cold sandwiches. Turkey pastarami Gouda croissant is worth a try. Shamsul has kept it light and it is not at all loaded with pastarami as the Americans tend to do. Any Italian food lover can try its thin crust pizzas or pick one of the pasta variety. Need my recommendation? Try capellini feta caponata. I love it.

In the main course, Chef Shamsul serves me chilli crusted cobbler with thyme veloute. It's a delicacy which can be trusted to entice the taste buds at any time of the day. Flavours of tender fish topped with chilli and laid on turmeric risotto, a mouth-watering dish. I also try out its Peri peri rubbed smoked chicken, full of spices but I find the chicken a bit dry. It though goes well with the smoked pimento. Being a tenderloin lover, I end the main course with a well done steak.

I sign off my lovely Deli outing with a roasted almond ganache torte.
