Unconventional, dynamic, unique.... even outrageous! The late M.F. Husain has been termed all this and more. His vibrant canvasses mesmerised and shocked the world in equal measures. However, very few are acquainted with his familial, humorous and creative side.
Pundole’s in Mumbai presents an auction of rare artefacts and drawings from the private collection of the late Badrivishal Pitti, a friend and one of the early connoisseurs of Husain’s work, who supported the artist staunchly. Diverse works such as interiors scenes, sculptures, architectural drawings, landscapes, ink drawings and even preparatory drawings for toys that Husain created for his daughter Raisa will go under the hammer.
Dadiba Pundole of Pundole’s says “While there has never been any dearth of Husain’s works at auctions, this particular one is unique in the sense that it will contain works from the 1950s and 1960s that have rarely or never been displayed.
Artefacts like wooden toys and sculptures will showcase a hitherto-never-seen facet of this great artist. Most of Husain’s later works were on canvas but this lot showcases works on paper. On another plane, the works will also showcase the formation of his language; the evolution of the artist to a legend!”
Dadiba expects the auction to be an interesting experience for connoisseurs of art and Husain’s artistry in particular, who would be excited to see his legendary talent in mediums and in forms beyond the usual.
Bottomline: Unearthing a new side to M.F. Husain.
