They’re back; that untiringly scheming, cheating, murdering lot. Race , a dark thriller in classic Abbas-Mustan ‘inspired’ style, had more twists and turns than the DNA double helix and there are no contra-indications for a repeat.
So prepare to stay awake, if not alert through Race 2 . However absurd or illogical the twists and turns might be, no point paying to see this movie and not keeping track of the plot, right?
Two members of the original cast — Anil Kapoor as the desi detective in a designer suit, and Saif Ali Khan as Ranveer Singh, business magnate in a Savile Row — remain.
One woman (Katrina Kaif as Ranveer’s chuppa rustom secretary Sophia) was bumped off in the original. The other, Bipasha Basu (as Ranveer’s perfidious love interest Sonia) has been taken care of, to use the appropriate terminology; she’s said to appear only in a cameo.
This effectively allows the directors to bring in young bombshell blood in the shapely forms of Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandez.
Given Abbas-Mustan’s high-voltage doses of party scenes and songs, this is an important move.
On to the plot. then. Sonia dies in a car blast and Ranveer, out to find her killer, finds himself serendipitously in exotic Istanbul where he collides with underworld don Armaan Mullick (Abraham), his fiancée Omisha (Fernandez) and the alluring Aleena (Padukone).
You can imagine the rest. Hopefully, the men in white have recovered from the debacle of Players and will give us their customary dose of full-on masala.
Bottomline: Stay awake and alert. No point paying to see this movie and not keeping track of the plot, right?
