It is a general belief that art is a pastime of the rich. This is what Taj Khazana and Art Alive gallery (Delhi) have set out to disprove with their latest show of Indian Contemporary Art. The show brings together works by masters like Sakti Burman, Anjolie Ela Menon, Maya Burman, Manu Parekh, Thota Vaikuntam and others at affordable prices. The array of styles and types of work on display are mindboggling.
From Maite Delteil’s dreamy colourful canvasses, to Nayanaa Kanodia’s humorous takes on every day life to Prabhakar Kolte’s unique abstracts and more, the show encompasses a wide range of works made available at affordable prices.
Sarita Hegde Roy, CEO, Taj Khazana, explains what lies behind this show: “Taj Khazana has always endeavoured to showcase Indian art and craft such that it appeals to a contemporary audience. Through this show, we are presenting an art repository that will enable patrons of art to behold the creative genius of the many talented, contemporary artists we have in the country.”
The Delhi-based ‘Art Alive Gallery’, established by Sunaina Anand, helps promote Indian art practices and has showcased works of eminent Indian contemporary artists. It is also dedicated to preserving our art and craft legacy by providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and market access to artisans and weavers. With Taj also committed to the cause, the collaboration has turned out to be a fruitful one.
Bottomline: Making art available at affordable prices.
