Diabetics need help to get over the fear of injections.
Needle length: Use a 4, 5, or 6 mm needle.
Site rotation: Change injection sites regularly.
Hygiene: Ideally, a new needle should be used for each injection. The site should be wiped with ether before injection.
Lipohypertrophy: A lump forms under the skin because of fat accumulation at the site of injections. The best way to avoid this is to rotate the injection sites, use larger injecting zones, and avoid reusing needles. Patients should be trained to detect lipohypertrophy and injections should be given at clean sites with clean hands.
Safety issues: Safety needles should be recommended whenever there is a risk for a contaminated needle-stick injury.
