Winning in style

Three teams from Hyderabad, Tiruvananthapuram, and Kochi emerged winners at the 16th edition of the Hindu Young World quiz.

The week The Hindu Young World quiz took place in Hyderabad (January 30), Tiruvananthapuram (February 4) and Kochi (February 5). The Quizmaster was V.V. Ramanan.

Hyderabad: The quiz saw more than 350 teams take part in the Junior and Senior rounds. P. Vikram and N. Raj Kumar from Teja Vidyalaya, beat Manoj Reddy and Sashi Kiran of St. Paul’s School by one point. The winners took home Firefox bicycles along with a goodie bag and certificates presented by actor-director Adivi Sesh of Bahubali fame. The duo from Teja Vidyalaya also clinched the Rs. 1,000 cash prize in a special round sponsored by State Bank of India.

In the junior category, Shraman and Aditya Sai of Sangamitra School emerged winners. Hyderabad Public School was second runner up and the team from Gitanjali Devshala was the third runner up. Janaki Ballav Sahoo, DGM of SBI, was the guest of honour. The event was presented by Vellore Institute of Technology, supported by Kokuyo Camlin and Country Oven.

Tiruvananthapuram:The Hindu Young World quiz was held at the Panchayat Association hall. K.S. Karthik and R. Aswath of St. Shantal School, Malamukal were the winners in the senior category. The team from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya secured the second prize and the team from Loyola came third. In the junior category Amna K. Anwar and Thamanna Hari of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, beat two teams from Loyola School represented by Prathith Chivukola, Ahamed Iqbal, Ashutosh S. and Lenoy John. They won the second and third spots. The winners received trophies, bicycles, certificates, and gifts. Additional Director General of Police, South Zone and an avid quizzer, K. Padmakumar gave away the prizes. The quiz was presented by the Vellore Institute of Technology, and powered by Neo IAS. The national gift partner was Firefox. The goodie partner was Kokuyo Camlin and Kerala Tourism was the regional sponsor. Regional gift sponsors were the Trinity College of Engineering, Pravachambalam, and Hotel Hycinth by Sparsa, Thampanoor.

Kochi: Quiz wizards from Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara and its sister school in Girinagar walked away with trophies and prizes at the Kochi round of  The Hindu-Young World  quiz.

The Bhavan’s Elamakkara team that won the seniors category comprised Sidharth Rekha and V. Tarun Vikas, while the Bhavan’s Girinagar team that won the juniors category was represented by George Philip and Sridhar M. Vijay. The first runners-up in the senior category was Sreeram Madhavan V and Paul Binu of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Poochatty and the second runner up in was Navy Children School. In the junior category Saraswathy Ashok and Kaveri Krishnan of Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal won the first runner up and the second runner up was Toc H Public School. Principal Secretary of Public Works Department A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who was former District Collector of Ernakulam and an avid quizzer was the chief guest.

The quiz was presented by the Vellore Institute of Technology, and powered by Neo IAS. The national gift partner was Firefox, while the goodies partner was Kokuyo Camlin.
