Young World fest takes off to a bright start

The cultural carnival was a warehouse of talent.

The R.S.K Higher Secondary School, Kailasapuram, Tiruchi, won the “Overall Best Performance Trophy” at the second edition of the inter-school cultural carnival, “Young World Fest 2010” at the MD Hall of BHEL.

The three-day festival held recently evoked an overwhelming response, with over 1,200 boys and girls of 70 schools from across 11 central and western districts displaying their talent in various events.

The defending champions, Montfort School, Kattur, was declared the “Best City Team”, and Trinity Academy, Tiruvarur, romped home with the “Best Outstation team”.

Noted Carnatic vocalist and actor Anuradha Krishnamurthy was the chief guest at the valedictory function, and she gave away prizes. A.V. Krishnan, executive director, BHEL, spoke. G. Ramakrishnan, General Manager, outsourcing, BHEL, and Rajam Krishnan, patron of Arivalayam, a school run by the BHEL for the mentally challenged, offered felicitations. R. Panchanadhan, former president of the Rotary Club of Tiruchi, presented the show with panache. The events were judged by eminent persons from various disciplines.

Bharathanatyam performances by troupes from “Salangai” and “Arivalayam”, Kathak performance by students of Bala Kala Vidhanam, and western dance by Nithin and team, marked the valedictory function.

Winners of the various events include:

Group Indian Folk Dance: Brindavan Vidhyalaya, Thiruvanaikovil, Santa Maria Matric School and Montfort School.

Group Indian Film/ Western Dance: Trinity Academy, Tiruvarur, Sacred Heart H.S. School and Global Compass.

Group Indian Classical Dance: RSK HSS, SRV Matric H.S. School and Boiler Plant Girls H.S. School.

Elocution: Periyar Centenary Memorial H.S. School, Kamala Niketan Montessori School and Brindavan Vidhyalaya, Ambikapuram.

Debate: Montfort School, RSK H.S. School and Kamala Niketan Montessori School.

Cartooning: Chinmaya Vidhyalaya and Montfort School (both second and third places)

Collage: RSK H.S. School, SRV Matric H.S. School, and ARR Matric School, Melacauvery, Kumbakonam

Garland making: Montfort School, Good Shepherd Matric H.S. School and RSK H.S. School

Flower arrangement: Good Shepherd Matric School, RSK H.S. School and Brindavan Vidhyalaya,Thiruvanaikovil.

Ceramic tile painting: SBIOA Matric School, Sri Vivekananda Matric School, Lalgudi, and SRV Matric H.S. School.

The BHEL, Tiruchi, was the title sponsor of the festival.

Punjab National Bank, SASTRA University and Anand Engineering were the associate sponsors along with The South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur. The co-sponsors were Vasan Healthcare, Ayyan Fireworks, Classic Foods, Voyager Electronics, Black Thunder Water Theme Park and KMC Speciality Hospital.

Sangam Hotels was the hospitality sponsor, while ARC Aqua Puraa was the water sponsor and Livia Polymer Bottles was the event sponsor for Indian classical dance.
