“Say no to Plastic”, “Save the Environment”, “Recycle your waste” are some of the messages that were displayed by the students of Abacus Montessori on a walkathon to bring about awareness and save the planet. With more cars on the road and less use of public transport, carbon footprints have been multiplying. Car pooling was one way to reduce carbon footprints.
Celebrating 25 years, Abacus Montessori invited students and parents to be a part of this journey that started from R.A. Puram where the school first began to Adyar and finally to OMR where the school is at present.
The walk that started from a garage in Raja Annamalai Puram at 7.15 a.m. saw the first batch of students join the celebrations. Nearly 150 students walked to Adyar from where the transport organised for parents and students took them to their third and final stop.
At Perungudi, Director, Mrs. Kamini Sundaram, addressed the audience. Alumni and parents were invited to share their experiences. Games such as Tug-of-War and Four Corners were organised to involve all those who had gathered, creating a sense of camaraderie.
This was followed by music performances by parents, teachers and the school band, who entertained the audience with various genres of music. One of the highlights was the screening of a short film about Abacus, conceptualised and produced by the students of Stds X and XII.
