Who wouldn't have an instant image in their mind to draw for a painting competition if the topic is as delightful as a ‘Family Outing', ‘Tree Planting Ceremony,' or a 'Circus Show'? The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2009 held at the Snehanjali Auditorium at Palayam in Kozhikode recently, was no different.
More than 300 budding artists, some even from remote places in northern districts of the state, turned up for the competition. Most of them were equipped with a complete painting kit comprising brush, bottles of colours, painting palette and a sheet of hardboard.
The young ones were quite quick to compose a frame in their mind and render it slowly on to the sheet of paper provided by the organisers the moment the topic was announced.
The entire auditorium soon began to look like a huge collage of colours, sparkling with vivid hues of imagination. Two hours later, the judges entered the hall and the valuation procedures began. After a careful scrutiny and a stringent assessment process, the winners emerged in both categories.
Winners
Akshay Sanjeev, of G.V. H.S. School, Balussery in Kozhikode, who depicted on canvas the stunning details of a crowd, watching a street-circus, with “incredible” colour-sense and “remarkable precision” in capturing expressions of his characters, emerged first-prize winner in the senior category.
In the junior category, O.P. Neelima Nath, from G.V. H.S. School. Koduvally, in the district, bagged the first prize. It was her brilliant portrayal of her “favourite” subject “to paint and to practise too” — A Family Outing, that won her the top honours in that category. S. Sidharth of Silver Hills Public School, Kozhikode, secured second place in the senior category and M.K. Ananya, from Seva Mandiram Post Basic School, Ramanattukara, in Kozhikode the third place. In the junior section, I.C. Nihal, representing Azhikode South U.P. School, Kannur, and K.P. Amaldev Nambiar of S.N. Vidyamandir at Thalap in Kannur, won the second and the third place respectively. Painter and art scholar Kabita Mukhopadhaya who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winners.
Maaza was the beverage sponsor for the event while Pepsico Cheetos Whoosh and Lotte Caramilk were the other sponsors.
