Meet Daniel Dorey and travel with him through Tumblewater. It is sure to be exciting.
Grisly Tales from Tumblewater and School for Villains by Bruno Vincent combine adventure, mystery and school. There is a story-within-a-story.
The plot revolves around Daniel Dorey whose mission is to rescue his sister Maria from the deranged Caspian Prye who has kidnapped her and wants to force her into marrying him.
The first book in the series, Grisly Tales from Tumblewater, charts 16-year-old Daniel's journey from the orphanage where he grew up to the town of Tumblewater in search of Maria. Daniel's encounters with the so-called Uncle, Nuala and Gora the witch are told in first person.
The death of Gora at the hands of the Slumgullion monster in the first book forms the climax of the plot as Daniel is in possession of the magical key to his sister's hiding place. Daniel's meeting with Harry the carpenter is significant because he provides him with vital information on how to overcome Gora and see through her various disguises.
The second book, School for Villains, focuses on the training Daniel undergoes in the underground school in order to conquer his enemy Caspian Prye. Daniel's encounters with Griswald, Lapiday, the Apothecary and the Monk give him an insight into where Maria is hidden. Ex-Inspector Rambull is an important character as he was in possession of the letters Maria left for Daniel which Daniel retrieves through the spell Gora gave him. Daniel's meeting with ghostly apparitions adds intrigue to the stories.
Daniel is also a story-writer who collects these morbid horror stories and publishes them. Daniel's murder of Caspian Prye and rescue of his sister culminate in the climax of the plot in second book.
