Trip to tribal society

On March 16, 2013, I went on a trip to a tribal society in Cuddalore along with my classmates and teachers. We started from our school at 5.30 in the morning. Other school students also had joined us. We saw many beautiful sights on our way over and were looking forward to meeting tribal students.

We visited three villages. We had collected money from our friends and relatives and donated it for the educational needs of the students as there is no proper educational facility there.

The students were happy to meet us as well. We spent time and interacted with them. We were impressed by their cultural performance and enjoyed their drama, dance, Thirukural recitation, games and quiz.

It was more than what we expected. We said our goodbyes and returned.

It was an unforgettable day for us. It was a great learning experience. I realised that despite lack of proper facilities, tribal children had the urge to learn and equip themselves with education. This inspiring experience reminds me of the quote, “Tough times never last, but tough people do”.
