Recently, the three-year-old nursery students at Little Elly's, a school in Mangalore, had a day of toy-sharing. The children were asked to bring toys from home including their favourite toy. The children took turns to talk about their favourite toy while the other children asked questions about it. This broke the ice, and soon the children were sharing and playing with their friends' favourite toy and enjoying the activity.
Bear time
“I have a huge collection of toys and dolls,” said Prapthi. But a huge brown “girl” teddy bear was her favourite. When asked why it was a girl teddy bear, she said, “I am a girl and so is my teddy.” However, she is yet to find a suitable name for the toy.
For Advaith, a toy tipper and a tanker lorry were his favourites.
“I like to share it with other boys and have a race. I like speeding with the lorry, especially with the bikes,” he said.
However, Liya was scared of speeding and she preferred to play with her dolls Bunty, Bubbly and Puppy.
“All the three are my favourites. It was nice sharing it with my friend Diya and we had a great time together,” she said.
Swathi, the school co-ordinator, said that the activity was organised so that children picked up communication and interactive skills early.
