The day I started saving money

April 15, 2013 06:49 pm | Updated 06:49 pm IST

I was playing outside with my friends when my mother called me. I went in and asked why she had called me. She gave me Rs. 500. My joy knew no bounds.

Then mom asked me what I would do with the money. I wanted to buy the new Thunderbolt cracker which costs Rs. 500 and I told her my wish to buy it. Although she said it’s fine, she was worried. I saw the look on mom’s face and asked her if something was wrong.

She said that if I bought the crackers, it would be harmful for the environment and all living things. I was disappointed. I didn’t know what else to do with the money. Mom must have understood my dilemma and advised me to save the money.

I started saving money from July 3, 2011. Since then, I have saved up to Rs. 8,000.
