Summer with books

July 24, 2014 05:03 pm | Updated 05:03 pm IST

This year, summer vacation was great for me as I spent my time reading many lovely books. I feel that books can talk to us. If we focus and read a book, we’ll feel it whispering to us. I think that is why most of us refer to books as our friends.

What does a friend do? A friend shares his or her things, makes us laugh, cry, gets angry with us and more. A book does the same. We should look at books as different characters in our life. Some books must be seen as teachers, some as parents and others as friends. There is nothing wrong in disliking certain books either.

Rather than going to different places during my vacation, I sat with my books and they managed to take me to hills, forts, mountains, forests, meadows and even some haunted mansions. I read up on original versions of some classics.

Read as much as you can and pluck all the sweet fruits from the garden of books. Then all of us can enjoy our next vacation with books.
