The world is talking about climate change and it applies to us, the future generation. And to sustain the planet all it takes is small steps that we can incorporate in our daily lives

With July 1 being Vanamahotsav Day, city schools rolled out plans to bring to the fore environmental issues to the children's knowledge.

“Children are the future of the world so their contribution makes a great difference,” says Miss. Nabeela a school teacher from Nasr.

Many schools in the city like Kalpa, Nasr and Little Flower have nature and environmental clubs whose members meet every two months to discuss and resolve environmental issues like setting up separate dustbins for degradable and non degradable waste in the school campus, putting up posters like “Say No to plastic” messages.

Be responsible

“We are responsible for our own deeds. If we harvest and refill the rain water back in to the earth we will not face shortage of water and less use of plastic will not intoxicate the earth,” says Syed Iesa Hussein of Hyderabad Public School.

To bring about change in the world we first need to change our attitude, she stressed.

The Greater Hyderabad Adventure Club is an eco club whose environment wing addresses the problems relating to environment like planting trees and keeping the city free of plastic.

They have also initiated a programme called “BREATHE”.

“The club has already transplanted 30-40 three to five year old trees under the guidance of horticulturist who takes care of trees until they are healthy to survive by themselves,” says Mr. Arun, organiser, GHAC.

The group has planted trees in A.S Raonagar, Sainikpuri and many other places.

And they have many school volunteers spreading the green cheer.
