Seeing double

The word dual means consisting of or involving two parts or components, usually in pairs. Thus there are dual controls in the cockpit, for the pilot and the co-pilot, and of course, these days dual -SIM mobile phones are available too.

If you are going to see your grandparents and visit the annual village fair, then your visit has a dual purpose.

If you are a person who can be sugar-sweet at times and nasty at other times, then you will be branded as a person who has a dual personality!

The adjective dua l is derived from the Latin term dualis , related to duo , the Latin word for two. Duo , which was borrowed into English, is a synonym for two. A related word, duet , refers to performance by a pair of singers (who constitute a duo ).
