Schools in Visakhapatnam, the bustling port-cum-steel city, has, of late, taking interest in children- related activities.

All festivals are celebrated with pomp and fan fare, the school managements explaining the significance of each festival to the children on the occasion.

The response to the recent Christmas and Pongal celebrations at schools, though the festvals were during holidays, was tremendous.

Apart from these, the schools are also creating awareness on various environmental, education and health issues. According to Director of Nalanda Talent School, Seethammadhara, P. Pulla Rao, his school had recently conducted a cancer awareness rally, organised by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing 13 (A).(BN) as part of the NCC Day celebrations.

The students raised slogans like “Tobacco thrills but kills”, and “Cancer survived is a life revived”. “We should organise more rallies to create awareness among the people for detection and prevention,” he said.
