Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conducted a cultural programme titled ‘Sravana Sangeetha Lahari’ last week, coinciding with the Telugu month of ‘Sravana’. It was an event to enable the students understand the country’s rich cultural heritage through the medium of fine arts.

Ratnam High School conducted its fifth annual Sports Day at SV University’s Tarakarama stadium recently.

Competitions were held in 100m, 200m, 400m running, shot put and long jump, in which the students exhibited their skills. The first, second and third prize winners received merit certificates and mementoes from the Ratnam group Director Krishna Kishore. Mr.Kishore said participation in sports would keep the students physically strong, mentally crisp and emotionally stable.

The march past taken by students stood out as an attraction. TUDA Vice-Chairman Ch.Penchal Reddy led the students by holding the torch. Principal Purushotham and manager Vamsikrishna took part.

Noted flutist Prapancham Sitaram took part as a guest and mesmerized the audience with an informal concert, which though lasted for just a few minutes, left a pleasing aural impact. Nearly 250 students participated in the various cultural events, dwelling on classical compositions by singers like Thyagaraja, Bhakta Ramadasa and Meerabai.

Bhavan’s honorary Director N.Satyanarayana Raju, Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) Vice-Chairman Ch.Penchal Reddy and SVIMS Director B.Vengamma felicitated Dr.Prapancham Sitaram.

Ravindra Bharathi School observed “Sri Krishna Janmashtami” in its Bairagipatteda campus. Dressed as Krishna and Radha, the tiny tots presented did a “Kolatam.” They tried to hit the traditional “Utti” (a pot supposed to contain curd) hung above them.

The Dean B.T. Sreedevi and Principal V.Harikrishna supervised the arrangements.

Lohith Reddy, a Std. VII student of Jain Heritage School, Tirupati, won a gold medal in Road I and silver medals in Rink III and Rink IV in the 8-10 year age group at the Open State Championship held at Vijayawada by the Krishna District Roller Skating Association recently. The Principal K.P. Raj congratulated him.
