The SRV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi, has launched a unique youth awareness project exclusively for Std. XII students.
Named as ‘YATRA-2009’ (Youth Awareness Realisation and Achievements), the objective of this programme is to create awareness on civil services and its scope amid the rapid progress of professional courses for the students.
Over 275 boys and girls enrolled themselves and appeared for the tests conducted at four levels, including an interview session. A total of 24 students, including 12 girls, were finally selected for this programme.
In order to trigger their potential and motivate them further, workshops focussing on aptitude, body language, behaviour as table managers, life skills and leadership qualities were conducted.
P. Suresh Kumar, Deputy Director Employment, G. Balakrishnan, former Vice-Principal, St. Joseph’s College, Ayyampillai from Bharathidasan University, Jnani, writer, were among the resource persons.
The students called on Karuna Sagar, Commissioner of Police, and interacted with him.
Interaction
The students’ team was taken to Chennai, where they had a lively interaction with V. Iraiyanbu, Secretary, Tourism Department, on the various programmes being implemented to boost tourism in the State. They also met Jnani and S. Raa (S. Ramakrishnan), both writers.
The team visited Hyderabad with the sole mission of visiting the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) National Police Academy. The students spent three days in this Academy to learn the functioning of the same and interact with the top police officials.
The students visited all the departments and had a feel of the language lab, parade ground, gymnasium, classes conducted for IPS officials and the practical sessions for them. The students also met with 10 IPS officials at an informal programme.
Interesting time
It was the meeting with the Director of the Academy, K. Vijay Kumar, which brought much cheer to the students.
The students took full advantage of the opportunity and shot probing questions. Mr. Vijay Kumar provided very direct, precise and relevant answers.
The five-day YATRA, taken out with the active support of the management of the school, gave the students a wonderful and collective experience.
