As the summer came heating the earth,
My school holidays took its birth.
My heart began dancing with joy,
As I had plenty of time for play.
My friends and I set out for swimming,
But they said, “Sorry no drop for drinking”.
We thought of going and playing in the park,
But the stench of waste made it dark.
We went to gym to become slim,
But all the junk food made us plump.
Lounging on sofa we watched the World Cup,
The power had gone off before the match wound up.
We played cricket; the first ball was a sixer,
But it broke the window of a boxer.
We went out to watch birds in site,
But it took long time for one to sight.
Bored and tired, we went home to sleep,
An old man came in my dream so deep.
He stood at my door with many gifts,
Gave me many fruits, books, flowers as gifts,
And a note for me to read along with gifts.
As I woke up in the morning,
My eyes went to the legible note.
It read, “Nobody ever wrote down a plan,
To be broke, fat, lazy or stupid.
Those things are what happen,
When you don’t have a plan.
So plan for your summer!”
