On a Sunday morning during the summer vacation, I woke up and got ready for a journey with my family. Actually I had been wanting to visit Bekal Fort for the last one year. We started from Vatakara (Kerala) by bus. Bekal Fort is situated in Kasargod district, near Karnataka. The fort which is in Pallikkara village is roughly polygonal-shaped. The Bekal Fort at Pallikkara is believed to be built by Sivappa Nayaka (1645-1660). In 1763, it fell into the hands of Hyder Ali. After the overthrow of Tipu Sultan in 1799, Bekal was under the control of the English East India Company and now it is taken care of by the Archaeological Survey of India. Tickets must be purchased to enter. I liked the Fort very much and there I played with my brother.

We reached Ezhimala in the afternoon to visit Indian Naval Academy, situated near Payyannur. The Indian Naval Academy's lighthouse is open to public between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. We got permission from the security, purchased a ticket and climbed to the top of the lighthouse. I could see the beautiful coast and trees from the top. It is quite easy to see the direction of the ship from there. I also enjoyed the fresh air. We left Payyannur by Maveli Express. It was a nice journey.
