Once there lived a girl named Priya who was studying in Std I. One day, there was an English exam in the school and she forgot to prepare for the exam. During the first period, the eacher distributed the worksheet. Priya was worried and did not write anything. She returned an empty worksheet.

When her teacher returned the corrected worksheets, Priya was sad to see that she had scored a zero and decided to tear up the worksheet. She reached home and told her mother in a happy voice, that she had scored 100 marks in the English worksheet.

“Where is your worksheet Priya?” asked her mother. She lied saying that her teacher had kept it with her. The next day, when her mother went to the parent–teachers’ meeting, Priya’s English teacher said that Priya had scored zero marks. Her mother was shocked. The teacher also added that she had found Priya’s torn worksheet near her scooter. Hearing this, her mother went home crying.

She called Priya and said, “Your teacher had seen your torn worksheet near her vehicle.”

Priya heard her mother crying. She realised her mistake, went to her mother’s bedroom and told her the truth.

Her mother said, “Priya!, never tell a lie because it will lead to a chain of lies.”
