One day, I read the story of “The Seed” in the book Chicken Soup for the Kid’s Soul 2, where a girl named Teresa grows an orange tree in New York. It reminded me of a plant I had brought home from school when I was in LKG. My mother had said, “Please do not uproot plants like this from school or any other place. It is wrong to do so. Also, when you pull out any plant, you should take care to get it with its root. A plant cannot grow without its root. There is a tiny root to this plant and if you care for it, it will grow.”
My mother helped me plant it in our flower pot. Every day, I waited to see if the plant would grow. I watered it well and cared for it every day. It slowly grew. In time there were pink flowers. There were at least four to eight new flowers every day. I saw the beautiful flowers every morning before going to school and felt happy. For almost three years, the plant lived with us and gave us flowers every day. During Christmas holidays last year, the plant died and I felt sad. I learnt that when we love and care for plants they grow and gives us flowers. Similarly, when we love and care for people, they will love us in return.
