Trees play an important role in our life. They take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen, which we need to survive. They hold the soil together and prevent soil erosion. They help in maintaining the ground water level. They provide us shade, wood, paper, gum, and rubber among other things. Trees help in controlling global warming.
Despite doing so much for us, trees are being destroyed. Global temperatures are steadily increasing and the ozone layer is depleting. This is because of deforestation. People are cutting scores of trees daily.
Bengaluru, which was called ‘Green City’, is no more a green city. It has now become ‘Concrete City’. Trees are being cut to make way for buildings and houses. Forests are being razed. Where will the wild animals go? When their territory is threatened, they venture into towns and attack people. If we destroy their peace, then they destroy ours. It is the law of nature.
The best thing we can do to stop deforestation is afforestation — when you cut one tree, plant two. In this manner, our needs will be carried out without destroying nature.
