A workshop, Kale – Sahitya, organised by Women and Child Welfare Department and Balabhavan Committee, Bantwal taluk, was held recently. It introduced rural children to the nuances of poem and story writing. The two-day event held at the Keddalike Higher Primary School provided a platform to bringout latent talent.

At the workshop that had 46 primary school students, the resource persons showed them a glimpse into the fascinating world of literature. They taught children how to develop their imagination for writing stories and poetry by weaving words and plots. A first-of-its-kind experience, the resource persons' initiative to make it a group activity had a good impact. Soon the children started enjoying the process of poetry and story writing through plots provided and limited knowledge of rhyming words. Children found they could attempt poetry and story writing.
Good experience
Vidya, a student of Std VII, said that the workshop was a thrilling experience. “I was happy to know that there is a talent to write poems and stories. Now I am confident of writing my own poems in the future,” she said. Megashree of the same class added that writing stories was a great experience. “I liked the way we were taught to build a story from a simple plot, mostly based on environment and animal issues. Though I like writing poems, I am more fascinated by stories as they are more interesting,” she explained.
Ranjitha, a student of Std VI has a different observation to make. She says, “I loved the way we were made to write poems with the help of rhyming words, which we had no clue about earlier. I also realised that it was easy to write stories and poems. Guidance was the only thing we needed. Further, I have got the confidence to participate in any competition that will help showcase my talent,” she said.
