K. Karthik, a student of Std. Xin NSM Public School, bagged first prize in the 16th All-India Children's Painting Competition 2011. The event was by the organised Vijay Information Fine Arts Academy, Hyderabad.

Showing his gold medal and a certificate that were presented to him recently, the boy says painting was his childhood passion. Karthik brought alive the pastoral charm of a village life in two of his paintings that depicted lush green meadows, farmers harvesting crop and children playing in a village tank in postal colours. He says kids interested in this art must focus on keen observation. “Let your mind's eye explore your surroundings. Don't limit your boundaries and allow your imagination to speak through your painting,” he says. The achievement has given a boost to Karthik's self-confidence.
